If you’ve run out of ways to make this summer exciting, we’ve got a suggestion you probably haven’t thought of yet—drop ice cream from your roof onto your kids. Or, rather, try to drop ice cream into the giant bowls your kids are holding, and hope for the best.

This idea comes from Carrie in our Offspring Facebook Group. Carrie has a second floor patio, so she didn’t actually have to climb up on the roof (if you do, please be careful!), but she calls this activity her “single favorite thing I have done in weeks.” She describes the experience:

It is hard! It is exciting! It is not unlike the thrill of axe-throwing but a whole lot safer!

If you don’t have a second floor patio or a low, safe roof, you could also lean out a window to drop your scoops. During a pandemic, it’s key to be able improvise whenever necessary.

Did Carrie’s kids catch all the ice cream? No, of course not. I spy at least one scoop on the ground, which is why she suggests you use “the cheap stuff” for this activity. But whatever the kids caught, they were allowed to eat—and, she says, it brightened everyone’s day.
