Woman charged in Central Park false report against Black birdwatcher

Manhattan DA charged woman with falsely reporting an incident.

Amy Cooper, the white woman who was filmed threatening to call the police on a Black bird watcher in Central Park in May, has been charged by the Manhattan district attorney.

"Today our Office initiated a prosecution of Amy Cooper for Falsely Reporting an Incident in the Third Degree," Manhattan DA Cy Vance said in a statement.

The incident took place on Memorial Day when Christian Cooper, 57, a member of the New York City Audubon Society board of directors, was watching birds and discovered a dog was off it leash and tearing through vegetation. Christian Cooper told the dog's owner, Amy Cooper, 40, that it needed a leash and tried to lure the dog away from the plant with some treats.
