It’s a perennial quirk of the holiday season: trying to pick the perfect gifts for the people in your life you’re super grateful for, but don’t actually know personally. What conveys cheer and thankfulness to a mail carrier and is actually useful? What should you gift your doorman? And what about your kid’s teacher?
Morning drop-off hellos, weekly emails, and the occasional conference aside, you’re not exactly friends with your kid’s teacher, but you owe them big. They are, after all, helping to mold your child into a smart, decent person they are destined to be, 35-odd hours a week. They deserve gifts all year round, but maybe you’re thinking a “#1 Teacher” mug will suffice for now. It won’t. (They have enough mugs.)
We asked teachers what they really want for Christmas and they expressed instant interest in helping compile the following list. As one noted, “I have a box full of gifts I’ve gotten from students I will regift someday.” Get them something that won’t go straight into that box.
