Between vegans and people with egg allergies, chicken eggs aren’t an option for everyone, and that’s where plant-based egg products comes in. But if you happen to have some in your fridge, it’s a good idea to check the label, because there’s been a large voluntary recall of foods made with the vegan egg-flavored products. Here’s what to know.
What vegan egg products are being recalled?
The eggless eggs in question come from Cuisine Solutions in Sterling, Virginia, which manufactures JUST Egg products, including the egg-flavored plant-based sous vide “bites” that are being voluntarily recalled. The reason for the recall? Undeclared allergens, according to a company announcement posted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Specifically, a limited number of two-pouch retail packages may contain an incorrect sealed pouch containing whole-egg and milk products.
The good news is that the interior plastic pouches are properly labeled, so it’s easy to spot the ones containing milk and egg. This is especially important for people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk or eggs, as they run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
What to do if have the recalled vegan eggs
In addition to the pouches being labeled, you should also check the “best before” date. The recalled egg-flavored plant-based “bites” come in 8.4 oz packages, and have “best before” dates from FEB-22-2022 to APR-09-2022. You can find the “best before” dates on the back of the package.

This is a pretty substantial recall, with approximately 80,632 boxes—containing flavors including “Inspired by America,” “Inspired by Japan,” “Inspired by India,” and “Inspired by Mexico”—distributed nationwide. Fortunately, at this point, only one incorrect pouch has been identified, and there have been no reports of adverse reactions.
Cuisine Solutions is working with all distribution and retail partners to remove any potentially impacted products, but if you find that you bought the JUST Egg products, you can return them to the retailer where they were purchased for a full refund.
