The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced that Bob Evans Farms Foods, Inc., is recalling approximately 7,560 pounds of Italian pork sausage products for potentially having possible foreign matter contamination—specifically, “thin blue rubber.”
The problem was discovered once consumers complained to Bob Evans Farms Foods about finding the thin blue pieces of rubber in the sausage. There have been no official health problems reported to the FSIS from consuming the contaminated products.
Which products are recalled?
Only the Italian pork sausage products produced on Sept. 8, 2022 with the following details were recalled:
One pound “Bob Evans Italian Sausage” chubs with lot code XEN3663466 and a “USE/FRZ BY” date of Nov. 26, 2022, with a time stamp between 14:43 and 15:25.Products from establishment number “EST. 6785” found inside the USDA mark of inspection.If you have Bob Evans sausage in your fridge, the FSIS recommends checking to see if it is included in the recall. You can find the pertinent information label here. The sausage was distributed to retailers nation-wide.
What to do if you have potentially contaminated sausage?
The FSIS recommends that you do not eat the contaminated Italian sausage if you happen to have purchased it. Instead, they recommend disposing of it or returning it to where you originally bought it.
