The “Game of Thrones” finale aired months ago, but the controversy around the contentious final season is not.
The series finale script is now online — and although some social media watchdogs are claiming it’s “leaked,” that’s actually not true.
It’s standard practice for the TV Academy to release the scripts nominated for “best writing” Emmy Awards, so this is through the official site. Now, it’s more fodder for the many fans who disliked the eighth and final season.
There’s a throwaway stage direction in the “Iron Throne” script that has fans firing up the old meme machine again.
The offhand aside inspiring ridicule: “Jon and Sansa both failed geography.”
In the context of the show, this occurs right after the action has calmed down (Jon has already killed Daenerys; Bran has already been proclaimed King) and Arya announces her intention to roam the world instead of returning to Winterfell.
“What’s west of Westeros?” she asks. That’s when much-derided show-runners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff drop their snarky, anachronistic “stage direction.”
So, “Game of Thrones” might be over — but our meme watch has never ended. Here are some of the derisive responses floating around the Twitterverse now:
Jon and Sansa did a good job here pretending they could read a map but the real heroes are geography aces Arya and Bran for not exposing them. pic.twitter.com/s45M5zjJ9y

Jon: *whispers* What if they find out that we don't know anything about this map?
Sansa: *whispers* play it cool it's going well. pic.twitter.com/BMe1anSYDL
