Parts of NCR witnessed heavy rainfall throughout Thursday and earlier in the week.

Schools will remain shut in at least 10 districts of Uttar Pradesh today while private and corporate offices in Gurgaon have been asked to work from home day after incessant spell of light to moderate rain yesterday.

Here are the top 10 updates on this big story:

At least 13 people have been killed and 11 injured in incidents of lightning, and wall and house collapses as heavy rains in parts of Uttar Pradesh affected normal life in Firozabad and forced the closure of schools in Aligarh.

The light to moderate rain drenched Delhi for the second consecutive day on Thursday, leading to flooded roads in several areas and affecting traffic movement on key roads across the city.

The Delhi Traffic Police Helpline received 23 calls related to traffic jam, seven regarding waterlogging, and two related to the uprooting of trees from various parts of the city, officials said.

The weather department has predicted more rains on Friday. "Light intensity rain/drizzle would occur over and adjoining areas of many places of South-Delhi, South-East Delhi, NCR ( Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Manesar, Ballabhgarh) Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra... Kotputli, Alwar (Rajasthan) during next 2 hours," the weather department tweeted at around 8 am.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a 'yellow alert', cautioning people about moderate rain at most places in the city.

Heavy rainfall led to waterlogging in parts of Gurgaon, leading to traffic jams as police struggled to decongest roads.

"Due to continuous heavy rainfall in Gurugram, there is waterlogging at some places and the traffic is moving at a slow speed. Therefore, we request all of you that you should come out of the house only when necessary," read the traffic police advisory issued on its Twitter handle.

According to police, the traffic moved at a snail's pace on the Delhi-Jaipur National Highway, Signature Tower Flyover and Hero Honda Chowk due to waterlogging.

The fresh spells of rain, just before the withdrawal of monsoon from the National Capital Region, will help cover the large deficit (46 per cent till September 22 morning) to some extent. It would also keep the air clean and the temperature in check.

The city recorded a minimum temperature of 23.8 degrees Celsius and a maximum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius today, seven notches below normal.
