If you listen to a lot of music, you might like to share your tastes with all your friends by posting those tunes to your Instagram stories. Unfortunately, that method might appear closed off lately due to a bug—when you go to share a song from Apple Music, the Instagram option doesn’t show up. Luckily, there’s a workaround you can use to bring it back.
Normally, when you go to share a song from Apple Music to Instagram, you tap the ellipsis next to the song’s name, tap “Share Song,” then you choose the Instagram icon that appears in the Share Sheet. For some people, however, they don’t see the Instagram icon in this menu; without that option, there’s no apparent way to launch the story sharing tool.
Get around the Apple Music bug and share to Instagram
While it’s not clear if there’s a fix at this time, there is a clear workaround. Follow the same initial steps you always do: Tap the ellipsis, then tap “Share Song.” Once the Share Sheet appears, scroll all the way to the right on the list of apps and choose “More.” Here, you should see Instagram appear as an option. Tap it, and you’ll find your usual tools for sharing the song to your story.
It’s not clear when this bug showed up or why it’s here in the first place. It also doesn’t seem to be limited to just one version of iOS; there are reports of users experiencing this bug on both the iOS 15 beta program, as well as official iOS 14 builds. Whatever is going on, it’s affecting many different iPhones and may be related to Instagram itself.
If a future Instagram or iOS update patches the issue, we’ll add that information to this article.
