Amtrak has been putting out some pretty good deals lately, but this one has the best value: As part of a 50th anniversary celebration, Coach and Acela Business class fares are currently 50% off the regular price for select routes across the country. The deal also includes $50 flat fares between major cities, provided that you travel between now and November 13. Here’s what else you need to know.
How the deal works
From now through May 5, you can book Coach and Acela class fares for 50% at amtrak.com/50th-anniversary-sale on select routes across the country. Even better, the deal also includes a flat fare of $50 on these routes, per segment (a segment is defined as anytime you get on a train and then switch to another), which means that you can book coach seats for $50 from Los Angeles to Chicago, or from New York to Miami (although I see that they’re getting booked up pretty fast). Other fares include:
One-way Acela fares
One-way fares
It’s also worth mentioning that, per The Points Guy, Amtrak will discontinue blocked seats and go back to full capacity on May 23, so you might want to book earlier if you want to take advantage of the extra space.
G/O Media may get a commission
(Note that this deal doesn’t apply to the following routes: New Haven-Springfield Shuttle, Pacific Surfliner, Philadelphia through the Pittsburg portion of the Pennsylvanian Keystone, and 7000-8999 Thruways).
Remember to follow CDC guidelines
The CDC recommends delaying all non-essential travel until you are fully vaccinated, as travel increases your chance of getting and spreading COVID-19. If you are vaxxed up, social distancing, including masks, is still required. If you are not fully vaccinated and must travel, please follow CDC’s recommendations for unvaccinated people.
