Frozen toys or treats are a great way to help your dog stay cool during hot weather (and we’re having a lot more of that, lately). Make your own frozen dog treats with only three ingredients and a few minutes in the kitchen.
What you need to make frozen dog treats
You’ll need a ripe banana, one teaspoon unsalted peanut butter, and one cup plain (not sweetened or flavored) non-fat yogurt, per DogVacay. Combine the ingredients in a blender and pour into an ice cube mold. Freeze the treats for about five hours, then let your dog enjoy! Give your dog one or two to cool down during summer and fall (when it can get the hottest in some parts of the country).
Keep in mind that dogs shouldn’t eat too much banana (they can overload on potassium) so make sure not to feed them the whole batch at once. If you’re worried about portioning, you can always skip the banana. If your dog has a sensitive digestive system or is prone to food allergies, always check with your vet before introducing new foods.
Or make a treat that has toys inside
Another hack comes from Avon Animal Hospital and requires you to pick up a few items you may not have (see below). Fill a plastic container with water and add little toys and treats, then freeze the whole thing into a big chunk of ice for your pup to lick and play with until they free the goods inside.
