Now You Can Order Delivery Through Your Roku for Some Reason

Like it or not, ads are finding their way into just about every facet of digital life. Even Apple, a tech company known for not making its money from marketing, is now showing ads on their iPhones. If the ads are going to be here anyway, I guess they might as well be useful. Which is why the next time you see an ad for a restaurant or grocery store on your Roku, maybe take advantage of the deal?

Here’s how it works: When you see an ad for something like Wendy’s while watching your Roku, you can click on it to order delivery. Thanks to a deal between Roku and DoorDash, the popular delivery app will be the exclusive service bringing the ad into your home (and stomach) for the next year. After that, you might start to see other delivery services in the mix. But, in the meantime, you can DoorDash any food or groceries that pop up on your screen at any time.

Wendy’s is the first partner in this new deal: When you order Wendy’s through Roku and DoorDash, you have access to $5 off with any purchase of $15 or more.

The no-brainer offer here, though, is a six-month free trial of DashPass, DoorDash’s subscription service. With it, DoorDash removes delivery fees, reduces some service fees, offers 5% back in DoorDash credit, among other subscriber perks. Once the six-month trial is up, the plan will auto-renew at $9.99 per month. If you order DoorDash enough, that cost might pay for itself. If not, make sure to set a reminder to cancel the trial before getting charged (if you sign up today, that would be Aug. 7, by the way).

Unfortunately, the deal is only good for both Roku users and new DoorDash customers. If you’ve subscribed to DoorDash’s DashPass in the past, you won’t be able to take advantage of the free six months. Still, the ads will be there, so you’re free to order up whenever the mood strikes. The deal expires on March 12, so if you’re interested, hop on it ASAP.
