On Wednesday, the Prime Minister greeted Kashmiri Pandits "Herath Mubarak" on Shivratri. Social media is abuzz with wishes, photos, gifs and messages on Mahashivratri. "Heartiest greetings to all countrymen on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivaratri. May Mahadev give happiness, peace and prosperity in everyone's life," wrote Home Minister Amit Shah.

Devotees of Lord Shiva across the world are celebrating Mahashivratri today. The 'Great Night of Lord Shiva' is one of the most important festivals for Hindus. Mahashivratri is observed on the 'Chaturdashi Krishna Paksha' or 14th day of the New Moon phase in the month of 'Phalguna' according to the Hindu calendar.
