No matter how many articles you’ve read on resilience, virtual vacations, or fake commutes, there’s no getting around the fact that the past year has been difficult in ways we previously hadn’t imagined. Though the vaccine rollout is continuing to roll, the COVID-19 pandemic isn’t over yet, and that means two things: 1) we have to continue with some of the practices that have made the past year so difficult (many related to gatherings, socializing, and physical distancing), and 2) at some point, we’re going to have to exist in public again like semi-normal human beings, after more than a year of collective and individual stress, grief, and trauma.
This is all to say that most of us could use some support in the mental health department. In fact, in the American Psychological Association’s 2020 “Stress in America” survey, close to 80% of American adults reported that the pandemic is a significant source of stress in their lives. To help us begin to heal mentally, online therapy app Talkspace is offering a free 10-day mental health course developed specifically for the challenges we’re facing right now. Here’s what to know.
What the course includes
Before we go any further, two things to note. First is that this or any online course is no substitute for working one-on-one with a mental health professional and should not be used in place of seeking help if you need it. Second is that therapy isn’t affordable and accessible for everyone, so tools like these are able to provide at least some form of information and guidance.
