This summer, Planet Fitness is giving teenagers a free summer pass to work out at their facilities. From May 15 until Aug. 31, 14- to 19-year-olds who pre-register will be allowed to exercise whenever they want at participating Planet Fitness locations thanks to the High School Summer Pass program.
How does the High School Summer Pass program work?
Teens under 18 will need to have a parent sign a waiver in the pre-registration process. This can be done electronically or in person (teens can work out alone once parents sign the waiver), but once they’re signed up, they will only have access to the specific location selected. There is no purchase necessary, but once the summer ends, the membership will likely continue for $10 per month, so make sure to cancel if you don’t want to continue.
After registering, download the app to have access to the digital club pass they’ll need to scan to get in the gym. Teens are allowed anytime the gym is open and can attend any free fitness classes available too.
What to know before going to the gym
If you’re a teen heading to the gym and need some advice to be safe and follow basic etiquette, we got you. There are simple rules you must follow to not injure yourself and be welcomed part of the gym community.
If you’re a parent who is concerned about your teen lifting weights, worry not. There is no “minimum age” for kids to start lifting weights as long as they’re doing it safely. However, there are certain exercises that are better for them to do, especially if they’re just starting out.
If you don’t have a Planet Fitness near you, check out other gyms in your area. Planet Fitness is not the only gym to do summer programs for teens, so call and ask around. Some even let teens go with a guardian for free.
