Southwest Airlines is having a promotion that won’t last long: If you buy a flight by April 5 to fly anytime before May 24, you will receive a “companion pass” that will allow you to bring someone with you anytime you fly between Aug. 15 to Sept. 30, 2023. There are some caveats to know though.
To be eligible for the promotion, you need to have an account with Southwest Airlines and register for the promotion. You can make an account here, and then select “register now” on the main page or click here to register for the promotion. You will need your “Rapid Rewards” number you got when you created your account to register for the promotion. You should see a green checkmark when you’ve been successfully registered.
Once you do both, log into your account and go on to select your flights. The flight you buy by April 5 must be a roundtrip flight or two one-way flights; you can’t redeem your Rapid Reward points to pay for the trip; and you must travel by May 24 to trigger the promotion. Once you do, you will receive a “companion pass” via email within 10 days, which will allow you to bring someone with you for any flights you take between Aug. 15 and Sept. 30, 2023 “free of airline charges.” That means your companion will still be charged for taxes and “fees.” You can’t register your companion until you receive the pass, although you can buy your flight before then; you are able to change the name of your companion up to three times.
