About 93,700 pounds of raw ground beef has been recalled by Tyson Fresh Meats, Inc., according to the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, for possible contamination of a “foreign matter.”

The issue was discovered when customers who bought Tyson Fresh Meat products started complaining to the meat company about finding “mirror-like” material in the beef. Tyson then reported the complaints to the FSIS. The recall is for Tyson ground beef items produced on Nov. 2, 2022 specifically from retail stores located in Texas. There have been no official adverse reactions reported from customers eating the contaminated beef, according to the FSIS.

Which Tyson beef products are recalled?

Three raw ground beef products are affected by the recall and have the establishment number “EST. 245E” on the seam of the chub. You can find the establishment number under the barcode on the left side of the official label. The following are the full product names recalled:

10-lb. chubs containing “Hill Country Fare Ground Beef 73% Lean/ 27% Fat with Best Before or Freeze By: Nov 25, 2022.”5-lb. chubs containing “Hill Country Fare Ground Beef 73% Lean/ 27% Fat with Best Before or Freeze By: Nov 25, 2022.”
5-lb. chubs containing “H-E-B Ground Chuck Ground Beef 80% Lean/ 20% Fat.”

What should you do if you have the beef?

Make sure to check your fridge and freezer to see if your Tyson beef matches the recall. If you have consumed the product and are concerned about injury or illness, you should contact your healthcare provider. The FSIS recommends throwing the recalled beef away or returning it to the place of purchase. The FSIS will update the list of affected retail stores on its website.
