Welcome Back to 'Will It Casserole?'

Hello everyone, and welcome back to Will It Casserole?, the column where we see what meals, dishes, and cuisines can be re-imagined and transformed into casseroles (or hot dishes, depending on where you’re from). It has been a while—nearly two years—since I took a reader-sourced concept and turned it into a casserole, and I miss being bossed around.

The last casserole I made was this tater tot-topped shepherd’s pie, and it was good, but I need a challenge, an esoteric concept, a foodie fever dream to transform into a multi-tiered hot dish. Something like Garth’s Breakfast Bowl, a cheese plate, or an entire cookout.

Here’s where you come in. If you’ve been hanging around Skillet for a few years, you might remember the reader-sourced aspect of this column. It’s pretty simple: I suggest a few casserole ideas, and y’all comment below with your own, or add notes and make suggestions for mine. I then read the comments, pick my favorite, make it a casserole, and share the recipe.

As always, I have a few notions to get you started, most of which I thought of long ago, but never brought to fruition:

Grilled cheese & tomato soup casserole: There are a couple of different ways we could construct this, but I imagining lots of crusty bread, lots of different cheeses, and a tomato soup reduction.French onion soup casserole: Similar to the above, but with an insane amount of caramelized onions, and a beef base instead of tomato (obviously).Trader Joe’s casserole: I’d like to see what kind of casserole I could build using only Trader Joe’s products—bonus if they all come from the frozen section.Taco Bell casserole: All Taco Bell items are basically a rearrangement of the same five ingredients, so I see no reason why a casserole wouldn’t work. We could build it out of actual Taco Bell items, homemade dupes, or a mix of the two.
