Finding a job is not easy, but for once there’s some good labor market news as many large companies are hiring hundreds of thousands of temporary workers across the country for the holiday shopping season.
Retailers including Amazon, Target, Walmart, and Best Buy are hiring seasonal workers, for employment that which typically lasts through to early January in the holiday season. With more people shopping online this year, many of these jobs are related to fulfillment and package handling.
Unfortunately, such work comes with a trade-off, as companies such as Amazon, Target and Walmart have faced ongoing criticism of their safety practices. These seasonal jobs might be a lifeline for you, but it’s worth considering the risks. Here’s a look at some of the companies that have recently announced seasonal hiring for the holidays:
Amazon announced that they are hiring for more than 100,000 new positions, with many of those positions in warehouse fulfillment. You can apply here.
Target plans to hire for seasonal employees but the retailer has not given a number. However, hiring is expected to be similar to 2019, when the company added 130,000 new employees. You can apply here.
UPS is expecting to hire over 100,000 seasonal employees to deal with the extra volume of packages being delivered during the holiday season. You can apply here.

Kohl’s announced it’s hiring seasonal workers, although it hasn’t given a total number of hires. They did hire 90,000 seasonal workers last year, however. You can apply here or text “APPLY” to 24508.
FedEx announced they’ll be hiring 70,000 more people to prepare for the holiday season, which is 27% more than last year due to increased online shopping. You can apply here.

Nordstrom plans to hire 22,000 employees in its fulfillment and distribution centers, as well as its namesake and off-price Rack stores. You can apply here.
Michael’s announced plans to hire over 16,000 seasonal employees across its U.S. and Canada stores and distribution centers. You can apply here.
