When Google announced the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro earlier this month, it revealed new features for Android 13, including Clear Calling. This option makes phone calls easier to hear by reducing background noises and improving vocal quality. Although Clear Calling was announced jointly with the new Pixels, it didn’t make its way onto Android 13 by their launch. But there’s still a way to try Clear Calling right now.
As reported by Android Police, Clear Calling is available as part of Android 13 QPR1 beta 3, which means, in order to use it now, you’ll need to install the beta on your Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro. Installing beta software can be rewarding, because you get access to new features earlier than most people. However, those benefits come with a risk: You’re installing unfinished software on your device, which means you could run into bugs and glitches that interfere with your day-to-day phone use. If things get really bad, you could lose data on your Pixel. If you ever choose to unenroll, Android will wipe your device.
If you really want to try Clear Calling, and other new features on the QPR1 beta, understand the risks before installing.
To install the beta, you’ll need to enroll your Pixel in the Android Beta for Pixel program. From there, sign into your Google Account, then choose your eligible Pixel. You’ll be prompted to select the beta program to enroll in, then accept the Terms of Service. Once enrolled, you’ll be able to install the beta from Settings > System updates like any other update.
With Android 13 QPR1 beta 3 or newer on your Pixel 7 or 7 Pro, go to Settings > Sound & vibration > Clear Calling. Tap the toggle to enable the feature, and see if it helps the quality of your phone calls. Since it’s still in beta, the feature might not work perfectly yet, but it’s live.
It won’t be a Pixel 7 exclusive for long, either. Google announced Clear Calling will make its way to Pixel 6 and 6 Pro as well, presumably in the December Feature Drop.
