Spotify Wrapped is such a simple idea: It does nothing but show people a summary of what they listened to in the last year, but in a way that is loaded with fun bespoke data, and oh-so-shareable. It’s a fun way to reflect on the past 365 days, which is why more and more companies are capitalizing on the trend. The latest to do so is Nintendo, which has launched its own “Nintendo Switch Year in Review” for 2022. Here’s how to check out yours.
If you haven’t heard of Nintendo Switch Year in Review, you’re not alone. For some reason, Nintendo doesn’t make its Year in Review available directly on the Switch, which definitely hampers the number of players exposed to the fun feature. (I, for one, only found out about it thanks to social media chatter.)
To be fair, Nintendo does have a featured article in the Switch’s News tab discussing it, but that isn’t much for outreach. I had to refresh News a couple times to see it, and I only bothered to do that because I knew about the feature already. The average Switch player who jumps straight into their latest game of choice without bothering with News might never know Nintendo has a Wrapped-like feature to break down their 2022 gaming.
Nintendo isn’t the only company that does a yearly review like this. Apple Music Replay is also hosted on a website, rather than the Apple Music app. Spotify takes the complete opposite approach to Wrapped, making it a mobile app exclusive.
How to see your Nintendo Switch Year in Review
To start, head to the official Nintendo Switch Year in Review site. (If you’re on your Switch, you can open the Year in Review article in the News section to scan a QR code with your smartphone that will take you right to it.) Once there, click “Get Started,” then sign into the Nintendo account associated with your Switch.
From here, you can browse your top games of the year, including most played, see which games have more than three years of play, which game you played most frequently, your favorite games of each month for the past year, and your favorite games by time logged.
Mine is a terrible example, because, truthfully, I hardly played Switch this year. My main gaming foray was Elden Ring, using my Switch only to play a little Enter the Gungeon, Overcooked, and Breath of the Wild. I guess I should get playing for 2023!
